What Cleaners Are Safe for Stone Countertops

Care & Guides

Choosing the right cleaning products is an important part of protecting stone countertops and helping them stay in good condition over time.

As a general rule, the safest everyday approach is to use warm water, a soft cloth or sponge, and, if needed, a mild non-abrasive cleaner. Products that are too aggressive, highly acidic, strongly alkaline, or abrasive may affect the finish or surface performance depending on the material.

Natural stones such as granite, marble, quartzite, and dolomite can react differently than quartz surfaces, so cleaning methods should always be approached carefully. In many cases, simple daily cleaning is better than using stronger products unnecessarily.

Avoid rough scrub pads, steel wool, abrasive powders, and harsh degreasers unless specifically approved for the surface being cleaned. It is also a good idea not to mix different cleaners or leave any product sitting on the surface longer than necessary.

When in doubt, the safest option is always a gentle, non-abrasive cleaning routine and a cautious approach. A countertop surface usually lasts longest when it is cleaned regularly but not aggressively.
